The atmosphere was electric with chants of “India, India” resonating through city centers nationwide, as people gathered to cheer for the “Men in Blue.”

The celebrations were not confined to a single city; from Jammu to Hyderabad, Patna to Pune, fans hugged, danced, and celebrated the end of a 13-year wait for a world title. This moment was particularly poignant for the millions of cricket enthusiasts who passionately follow the sport and idolize its players. Prime Minister Narendra Modi quickly took to social media platform X, praising the team’s performance and calling the match historic.

His message reflected the sentiments of a nation bursting with pride as firecrackers lit up the skies and joyous fans poured into the streets post-match, which concluded at around 11:30 PM IST in Barbados. Iconic locations like India Gate in Delhi saw large crowds, while in Mumbai, fans danced to drumbeats at the airport and on the streets.

Kolkata’s streets were illuminated with firecrackers, and in Bengaluru, fans in Team India jerseys danced exuberantly in pubs and eateries. Social media was awash with congratulatory messages, celebrating the team’s hard-fought seven-run victory over South Africa in a gripping final.

The elation was palpable, with fans describing their long-awaited joy and expressing plans for extended celebrations. In Jammu, fireworks accompanied chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” likened to a Diwali celebration. Hyderabad witnessed euphoric scenes outside the state secretariat, with revellers climbing onto vehicles that honked in celebration. Praise for the team and coach Rahul Dravid was widespread, highlighting his significant contribution to this triumph.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, in an emotional message on X, reflected on India’s journey from the lows of the 2007 ODI World Cup to becoming a cricketing powerhouse and securing the T20 World Cup in 2024. He extended heartfelt congratulations to Dravid and the entire team, emphasizing the total team effort and the inspiration it brings to the nation’s aspiring cricketers. The celebration was a testament to the unifying power of cricket in India, marking a night of national pride and collective joy.
